What we've been up to ......
The great ascent!..There has been a large piece of rubber matting maybe an escapee from a pontoon, on one of our local beaches. It's been there for some time appearing, disappearing, over the months so this was the month we decided something should be done about it. Last year, we missed capturing a large net that landed on the same beach due to a change in the weather. The net disappeared the day before we were set to go out with the NT only to reappear further down the coast-this time completely inaccessible. We weren't going to let this 25mx10m matting escape us so easily. We made arrangements with Biffa to collect the waste, collected some willing volunteers and off we went. The beach is accessible by numerous steep steps-going down was easy.. coming up with the matting more challenging. We cut the rubber up into pieces (prob weighing 15-20lbs) each, dragged these along the beach and by various means up the steps, through a field, over the road to the car park!(rest!)
The matting is now gone, so there is no danger it can get washed out potentially causing damage to marine life, people or boats. Job well done! and the best part was meeting all those who volunteered, including those we press ganged :) thinking they would relax on the beach and Mike the holiday maker.
It's always good for the soul when you work with people for the same good cause. Thank you to everyone that helped.
